That democracy was polarized by President Salvador Allende’s experiment to evolve Chile into a Marxist state. That democracy died with the coup on September 11, 1973.In the book, Gene Allen shares his experience and personal journey to both 1) understand the collapse of the Chilean society he witnessed in 1973 as an exchange student, and 2) pursue efforts to prevent comparable societal breakdowns. This journey took him from MIT and the nuclear Navy to economic development on Senate Majority Leader Byrd’s staff to the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences to MSC Software. He, with Rick Jarman, wrote the book on Collaborative R&D that shows how to build teams to reduce the commercialization risk in getting the benefits of research into society. His focus on improving engineering with computers has contributed to today’s world.
